Judge in chambers with lawyersThis is the first post in a series of articles which will address the question of “can you get a quick divorce in Las Vegas, Nevada?” I feel it is necessary to address this issue as our state’s liberal divorce laws sometimes result in people moving here simply to end their marriage. It is also common for residents of our state to wonder how long the process will take. I have decided to write this series, therefore, to provide information which may help people to better understand their particular situation. It is also my goal to provide information which will assist with the selection of an attorney. If you are in need of assistance then contact my office today to speak with a lawyer.

I will be addressing several topics over my coming articles. Issues which I will be analyzing include the following:

  • Whether one is eligible to file for divorce in our state
  • How long an uncontested divorce may take
  • Obtaining a divorce when your spouse cannot be located
  • Why a contested divorce is unlikely to conclude quickly

I am addressing these particular issues for several reasons. First, while Nevada’s residency requirements for divorce may be some of the most lenient in the Country, there are several reasons why one may not wish to move here simply to file. Second, the uncontested divorce process can help parties to end their marriage almost immediately. Third, if your spouse cannot be located then obtaining a default divorce is something which can be accomplished relatively quickly. The process of serving them by publication, however, can take several weeks. Finally, if the matter is contested then the spouses should expect it to take substantial time.

A key point I will be addressing in each of these articles is that you should speak with an attorney as soon as possible if you are considering ending a marriage. Speaking with counsel sooner, as opposed to later can prevent delays in your case. It can also prevent you from finding yourself in a situation where you are asking the Court to rule on an issue where it lacks jurisdiction. I am a Las Vegas divorce lawyer who practices solely in the area of family law. Contact my firm online or by telephone today to schedule an initial consultation. We look forward to speaking with you.
