This post is being written to conclude and recap my series on the handling of parental termination cases in Las Vegas, Nevada. I felt it was necessary to write on this issue for two reasons. First, there is no more serious an issue in family law than the termination of one’s rights. Second, most parents do not know what to expect from the process. The goal of my recent articles has been to provide information which will assist parents in understanding their options. It has also been my goal to provide information which will assist with the selection of a family law attorney. If you are in need of assistance then contact my office today to speak with a lawyer.
I have addressed several topics over my recent articles. Issues which I have analyzed include:
- The termination of parental rights when the parties agree
- The process of a contested parental rights termination
- Defending a parental termination case
- Appealing the termination of parental rights
There are multiple reasons why I chose to address these topics. First, many terminations come about due to an agreement between the parents. This typically involves a situation in which one parent gives up their rights and also is no longer required to pay child support. Second, the process in a contested matter is similar to other trials. It is important to understand that process as the termination of rights has been referred to as “the civil death penalty.” Third, it is not uncommon for such cases to be based on false or over exaggerated claims. Mounting a competent defense is vital. Finally, understanding what the appeal process is, and is not, is important to knowing what one should expect from an appeal.
One point I stressed in each of these articles is that one should retain a family law attorney with experience in handling such matters. Few family law cases are as impactful as those involving the termination of one’s rights. I am a Las Vegas parental termination lawyer who devotes her practice to the handling of domestic relations law. I understand that this is a crucial time in your life and my office will give your case the attention it deserves.
