This article is being written to conclude and recap my series on the process one faces when going through a Las Vegas, Nevada divorce. I considered it important to write on this issue as understanding the process is important to deciding whether or not to move forward. The legal process is seldom similar to what is depicted on television. The goal of my recent articles has been to provide information which will help people to better understand their particular situation. It has also been my goal to provide information which will assist with the selection of a family law attorney. If you or a loved one are in need of assistance then contact my office today to speak with a lawyer.
I addressed a number of topics over my recent articles. Issues which I analyzed included the following:
- Beginning a divorce case
- What to expect at the initial hearing in a divorce case
- The importance of discovery in divorce cases
- Attending a divorce trial
- Resolving divorce cases through mediation
- The benefits of an uncontested divorce
There are multiple reasons why I chose to address these particular topics. First, many are under a misunderstanding as to how the early stages of a case proceed. The Court’s initial concern will often be to get a temporary order in place so that the parties can have a set structure to follow while they move through the larger process. Second, the initial hearing in a matter is typically a brief affair and is not a trial in the matter. Third, discovery is the process by which evidence is gathered in a family law case. Without properly conducting discovery, it can be difficult to prove one’s case at trial. Fourth, resolving the matter through mediation, when possible, can save both parties time and aggravation. Finally, if the parties are in agreement as to all issues then they may complete an uncontested divorce.
An important point I made throughout this series is that it is best to retain a family law attorney if you are considering ending a marriage. Such matters can involve complicated issues of fact and law and it is important that your rights be properly protected throughout the process.
